Class Blogs (2012)

After you have read my welcome post below and created your own blog, please leave your real name (to protect your privacy, you can simply leave your first name and the initial of your last name, plus the last four digits of your student number) and blog address in a comment here.

Welcome to the class of 2012

This is the place where the bloggers in SMC 305 gather to post their blog addresses and to connect with each other, as needed.

Once you have created your own blog, be sure to add a link to the "Class Blogs (2012)" post above in a comment. Please include your real name as well as your blog title and link so that I can know who you are. You may wish to follow this blog in order to be notified of new blogs as they are created.

Some rules:

1) Keep current with the blog. Don't leave all of your posts until Reading Week or the end of the semester. Only those posts written when the topic is fresh will be counted towards your course requirement.

2) Write clearly and concisely. While blog writing is intended to be less formal than standard academic prose, clear correct English is still required and expected.  Images, videos, music clips, etc. are all welcome (and encouraged).

3) When you comment on someone else's blog, include a link to your own blog so that I can read all of your work in one place. Or, if you wish, you can post your comments on your own blog and post a link in the comments of the blog you are discussing. The point is that I need to have easy access to all of your blog postings in one place.

4) Be respectful in all of your comments. Some of the topics and artefacts discussed in class can be controversial. Any blog posts that I deem hurtful or discriminatory will called out as such. Also, give one another the benefit of the doubt when interpreting blog posts. Things can get pretty heated pretty quickly.

5) Remember that this is an academic course blog, not an occasion for the expression of personal piety or antipathies. This does not mean that you cannot express your opinions on all matters discussed in class, but simply that our discourse should be academic in tone, not overly personal.

6) Feel free to look over the blogs from last year's class (links are in the "Class Blogs [2011]" post from last January) to get ideas for designing and executing your own blog. However, be sure to cite any and every site you use to inform your own blog.

Closing the class blogs

Dear SMC 305 bloggers,

I will start reading your completed blogs after midnight tonight. Feel free to write posts today, but know that I will not be reading those posted after midnight.

I have been following the postings throughout the course and have learned a great deal. Thank you all for your contributions.
